Discharge Instructions: Oocyte Pickup (Ovum Pick Up)
April 18, 2024
Congratulations on completing your Egg Retrieval procedure! Here are some important instructions to ensure a smooth recovery:
01. Rest and Recovery
Allow yourself time to rest. Avoid strenuous activities and heavy lifting for at least 24-48 hours. Ensure you have a support system at home to assist with daily tasks during the initial recovery period.
02. Pain Management
You may experience mild discomfort or bloating. Over-the-counter pain relievers, such as acetaminophen, can help manage pain. No Advil/Aspirin/Naparoxen to be taken for 48 hrs post-procedure. A hot water bottle/ heating pad applied to your lower abdomen/lower back can help with the cramping sensation. If prescribed pain medication, take it as directed.
03. Hydration and Nutrition
Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water. Eat light, easily digestible meals to support your body's healing process. A high-salt diet may be recommended.
04. Monitoring and Reporting
Monitor for any signs of infection, such as increased redness, swelling, or discharge at the injection site. Report any unusual symptoms, severe pain, or concerns promptly to your healthcare provider.
05. Follow-Up Appointments
Attend any scheduled follow-up appointments, generally scheduled about 4-6 weeks post retrieval. Discuss any concerns or questions you may have about the recovery process.
06. Emotional Well-being
It's normal to experience a range of emotions post-procedure. Reach out to your support network or consider counselling if needed. Focus on self-care and engage in activities that bring you comfort and relaxation.
07. Avoid Sexual Activity
Abstain from sexual activity for approx 7-10 days or until the return of your menstrual cycle.
08. Medication Adherence
If prescribed medications, adhere to the prescribed schedule and dosage. Contact your team provider with any medication-related concerns.
09. Work and Activities
Depending on your job and the nature of your daily activities, you may need to take a few days off. Discuss this with your Primary Care Team.
Remember, individual recovery experiences may vary. If you have any questions or concerns, don't hesitate to contact your healthcare provider. Wishing you a smooth and successful recovery!
