Ovidrel Prefilled Syringe

Ovidrel has been ordered as part of your treatment plan and works by triggering ovulation. Ovidrel contains the hCG hormone and when appropriate, used to induce ovulation at the right time in your cycle for intercourse or insemination (IUI).
It comes as a 250 mcg dose injection. It is intended for a single subcutaneous injection to your lower abdomen. Any unused material should be discarded. It can be self-administered by the patient.
Supplies
01: Before you proceed please make sure that you have the following:
- Depending on your prescribed dose, you may need 1 or more Ovidrel Prefilled Syringe
- 2 alcohol swabs
- A sharps pouch
Preparation
02: Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water.
03: Carefully clean the injection site with an alcohol swab.
04: Make yourself comfortable by sitting or lying down. Carefully clean the injection site on the stomach with an alcohol wipe and allow it to air-dry.
Administer the Injection
05: Administer your injection. Carefully remove the needle cap from the syringe. Do not touch the needle or allow the needle to touch any surface. Inject the prescribed dose as directed by your physician/nurse.
After the Injection
06: Gently withdraw the needle. Discard the needle and syringe into your safety pouch. Place an alcohol swab over the injection site. If any bleeding occurs, apply gentle pressure and cover it with a bandaid.
07: Storage and clean up. Remember that your injection materials must be kept sterile and cannot be reused.
Storage
- Store refrigerated between 2-8 and can remain in fridge until expiration
- Protect from light.
Common Side Effects
Normal side effects you may experience while taking this medication may include:
- Nausea, headache, abdominal pain, and inflammation at the injection site.
